Voice of Home

Check out this fantastic poem written by Zara.  This poem was inspired by the sounds Zara heard while walking home one day. Voice of Home Voice of home is Blinking in the warm sunlight as you Pull open your cartoons In Your room. Voice of home is Churning on the sprinkler and watching the water Gushing out then, getting wet in the Heat and sunshine of hot summer. Voice of home is Welcoming friends, Making leaf mountains and after you have Finished, raising thro them and destroying The piles then looking back , watching the leaves as they Slowly drift away in The beauty of autumn. Voice of home is Watching dad Lighting the fire Then after he’s Finished,  seeing your Cat Crawl up and snuggling up as the heat crawls around the house destroying the freezing winter. Voice of home is Leaning to the rain Beating on the roof While laying in your bed. By Zara

Joey's Speech - Basketball

Basketball is one of my favourite sports. I watch it every day. Now I’m going to start of my speech with James Naismith.  He created basketball in 1891. The reason why he created basketball is because they needed a game that was inside because of how cold it was outside in the winter.  Now it's become one of the most popular sports in the world with all it’s games and names like Lebron James with his own shoe brand, all the kings of trash talking like Koby Bryant and Larry Bird. But the most funny thing is FLOPPING... like a fish on the ground pretending to be injured and trying to get fouls. I think the best flopper is Lebron James with all his fake cry baby faces. Records, my favourite record is about my only favourite team the Boston Celtics with the record of winning the most rings.  If you don’t know why you get the rings it’s because when you win the title you get a golden ring. And The Boston Celtics have the most titles. The person with the most rings is from the

Grace's Speech - Don't Bully!

Have you ever been bullied before? Well today I’m going to talk to you about bullying. Bullying is one of the worst thing anyone should face and that’s why I’m going to convince you not to bully and judge other people. Bullying is when someone intimidates, judge, force, fight others and puts people down.  The reason why you shouldn’t bully is because it is bad and no one should be judged by the way they look. There’s also an idiom and it says: Don’t judge a book by its cover which means no one should be judged by the way they look. So it doesn’t matter what country you come from or what skin colour you are everyone should be treated the same way. Another reason why you should not bully is because people who you bully might bully you back or they might bully others which is a very bad thing to do. We have to be nice and kind and share the kindness so that everyone will be happy. I saw this paper hanging on the wall in home base 2 and I thought that I should put it in my s

Who doesn't love a good dessert.

This week it was my turn!  Like I said to the students, even though I stand up in front of them talking every day, giving the speech still made me nervous - but I did it! I've learnt the best thing to write a speech about is something I know a lot about.  That way I don't need to spend a lot of time researching - all my time and energy can go into writing and practicing the delivery (the presenting) of my speech. Once I shared my speech, the students and I looked at the different things I included to help make it persuasive, so they can then use some of those things in their own writing. Check my speech out below - defintely a topic I know lots about! Desserts should be eaten every day Apple crumble with custard, Goody-goody gumdrop ice cream, hot fudge pudding dripping with chocolate sauce - who doesn’t love a great dessert?  I am here today to convince you all, especially you adults, that desserts should be eaten every day. Without a doubt, the most important re

Warming up for Speeches

Image
It's getting closer to that time of year - Speeches! Over this term we are making sure we include a lot of chances for us to speak up and share our thoughts and ideas with the class.  This is giving us a great chance to step out of our comfort zone as well as an opportunity to practice speaking clearly and with volume.  Some of the games we are playing include Draft Dictionary (shown in the pic) and Table Talk Cards - all things that could be done at home. We've also talked about the feelings we can have as speech day gets closer.  I remember feeling so nervous when I was this age.  It's ok to feel like this and together we can make this an enjoyable experience.  It's defintely not something any of us need to worry about and I have asked the kids to talk to me if they are feeling like this.  We also have a number of students super-excited and determined to try and make it to finals.  Exciting stuff! Over the coming weeks we are working towards writing our speeches in

You really do need to check this out.

My name is Deb and I am the teacher of the most amazing group of kids.  They are a caring, kind and funny bunch of 31 young people from all sorts of different backgrounds and cultures. The reason I wanted to set up this blog is so I can share the fantastic things they achieve.  The writing, the art and the ideas they come up with blows my mind so I want to share it so it blows yours too. Along with sharing their creations I will also include other things that I am sure will inspire them. These 31 authors love using the work of other authors to inspire their own work, so what better place to share these than here. Enjoy - you really do need to check this out!
